Existing and start-up small businesses in Mexico gained knowledge and expertise to compete in the domestic marketplace through the establishment of a sustainable, small business assistance infrastructure in Mexico. The partnership established the Centro México Emprende Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at UAG and replicated the US SBDC center model to establish more than 40 centers throughout Mexico. A Mexican Association of Small Business Development Centers formed to represent the growing network and held six national conferences. A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Mexican Association of Small Business Development Centers and the 1,000 center-strong U.S. Association of SBDC cementing a formal relationship between the two organizations. More than 4,000 Mexicans received training on small business issues from business planning and export operations to the growing SBDC network. The partnership provided in-depth diplomado training for over 110 newly hired professionals from Mexican SBDCs on how to operate and provide effective assistance to small business development centers.
