Oklahoma State University and Hawassa University, in partnership with other groups, proposes to establish a Consortium of African – United States Educators (CAUSE) to enhance and empower African development and transformation via higher education.
This partnership, built on several long-standing relationships, some dating back to the Point Four Program in 1952, proposes to develop a strategic plan for collaboration in the focus area of Agriculture, Environment, and Natural Resources with an overarching goal to transform and improve higher education using the problem model of Food and Nutritional Security in East Africa. The objective is to create a long-range strategic plan for CAUSE resulting in a template for long-term goal setting, objective identification, mutual cooperation, funding mechanisms and specific outcomes that will strengthen the capacity of higher education while solving problems for historically underserved populations, including women, in East Africa.
Cooperation of CAUSE members offers an innovative and extremely effective way to enhance higher education capacity by bringing together a talented group of international partners with expertise in education, research and extension. The long-term strategic plan developed by CAUSE will provide a framework capable of transforming higher education in East Africa by strengthening capacity resulting in excellence in research, teaching and extension activities that address critical regional issues.
