The partnership between Northern Kentucky University and the United Arab Emirates University, with the cooperation of Yale University, Saint Joseph College, and Sultan Qaboos University improved the training of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers through the collaborative development of a service learning curriculum for pre-service teachers which links EFL teaching to community needs. Additionally, partners improved pedagogical approaches to teaching EFL, trained expert EFL mentor teachers, positively impacted the English language proficiency of teacher education graduates, and impacted K-12 English language learning and the community in a positive way. Participants wrote and published Learning English through Service: a Curriculum Guide for Using Service Learning to Teach English, a resource to be distributed in UAE and other Arab countries.
