Madonna University and Notre Dame University (NDU) are developing curriculum and enhancing the teaching of American Studies at NDU. The partners are focusing on democratic values and underlying philosophies, political institutions, issues of diversity and women’s rights, free and independent media, U.S. history, and themes and values represented in American literature and folklore. The goal is to enhance the American Studies Program at NDU through extensive consultation from and collaboration with an interdisciplinary team of faculty members from Madonna University, drawing on the extensive resources of the Arab American community in the Detroit metropolitan area. Partnership activities include: (1) development of project action teams at each institution; (2) faculty exchange visits and interactive video connections to establish strong channels of communication; (3) workshops on diversity issues; (4) curriculum development; (5) enhancement of library resources at NDU; and (6) development of a community advisory board at both institutions.
