The partnership between OSU and CIDE will create a virtual center for the analysis and support of rural and microfinance markets in Mexico. Through scholarships, exchanges, lectures, and workshops, the project will strengthen the capacity of Mexican institutions to study and analyze issues related to micro- and rural finance, including the use and impact of remittances on rural development. The overall goal is to improve the capacity of financial intermediaries in these markets to perform better, thus providing access to credit to previously excluded populations. It is intended that the results of this research will be used by non-governmental organizations and other financial intermediaries to improve their outreach and sustainability.
