San Diego State University (SDSU) and Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC) developed a joint master’s degree program in transborder public administration and governance for the U.S.–Mexico border region, informed by a newly established advisory board. Nine Mexican students completed the certificate phase of the program, of which six continued to complete masters’ degrees at both SDSU and UABC. Courses were co-designed and co-taught by faculty from both universities. An applied research practicum allowed students to form binational research teams to address topics including housing, transportation, public safety, ports of entry, infrastructure, and transborder resource management. The results enable Mexico’s border region government to take greater advantage of national and international development opportunities. Community stakeholders from the region provided input during the research projects and research findings were publicly presented.
