The UCB-INSP partnership will form a collaborative, multi-level training program focused on HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis (TB) prevention and care. The program will offer master’s degrees with specialization in HIV/AIDS/TB, professional certificates, as well as short courses, all designed to strengthen Mexico’s capacity to respond to the dual epidemics. The program will be multidisciplinary, enabling students to approach these health problems from a variety of perspectives, but it will have a central focus on improving the efficiency of prevention and care programs through the use of economic evaluation of HIV/AIDS/TB interventions. Outstanding scholars emerging from this program will be eligible for internship placements in public and private sector institutions conducting research or working to prevent and provide care for patients with the two diseases. The partnership will work to develop and improve Mexico’s human capital to effectively address these intertwined epidemics, will forge stronger ties between academia and health systems in both countries, and will facilitate the application of academic knowledge and research to community needs, with the potential for improved public health information, policies, and services.
