This TIES partnership is making Mexico’s trade-led rural economy more competitive and improving the socio-economic standing of rural communities in Mexico. By selecting and developing a research and outreach strategy for three local communities—Zozocolco, Atzalan, and “Los Tuxtlas”—Universidad Veracruzana (UV) is improving its ability to address the educational and economic needs of rural communities Seven UV students were selected to begin their master’s training at University of Georgia (UG) in food science, middle school education, agricultural economics, housing, and consumer sciences. Faculty and project administrator exchanges of two to four weeks are being planned, with a focus on curriculum development, joint research and joint supervision of master’s candidates, and outreach activities related to best practices for agricultural diversification in Georgia and Veracruz.
