The partnership awarded fellowships to the University of New Mexico (UNM) to two UQROO students, who will complete master’s degrees in community and regional planning and then join the UQROO faculty. By educating mid-career and young practitioners at UQROO’s new Programa Postgrado de Planeación, the partnership is supporting community-based decision making in the region in natural resource management and planning. Also, through short scholarly exchanges between UNM and UQROO faculty, the partnership is generating research-based scholarship to inform policy decisions. The TIES collaboration provides a critical service to the state of Quintana Roo at a time of political and economic opportunity and challenge.
