This partnership will build sustainable inter-institutional ties through collaborative graduate level training, research, and community outreach. The focus of these activities will be to (1) enhance the institutional capacity of the Mexican partners; (2) develop an expert core of Mexican faculty in the area of tuberculosis and related infectious disease prevention, diagnosis, and control; (3) reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with these conditions; and (4) improve the health of Mexican communities. The subsequent training of Mexican faculty and continued collaborative research and outreach will enhance institutional sustainability and professional relationships. These integrated activities also are directed toward increasing the competitiveness of the Mexican workforce by stimulating the development of higher-level jobs in the health and health technology sectors and improving productivity.
