The research training process will entail gathering theoretical information (tools, methodologies, best practices, expertise), developing an integrated major case study in the watershed region of Antigua, and disseminating trans-disciplinary knowledge, findings, and results through publications and local stakeholder workshops in several states in Mexico. Partnership activities will include master’s degree training in natural resources or business administration combined with a certificate in ecological economics, trans-disciplinary regional research with students and faculty in Mexico on watershed management, environmental mitigation strategies, public policy, and local market opportunities in concordance with environmental conservation criteria. Partners will also facilitate community workshops to apply research findings and develop an Ecological Economic Center, housed at the Universidad Anáhuac de Xalapa and expanded to satellite centers, in an effort to enhance interdisciplinary education and research and to provide stakeholder services through workshops and strategic planning on environmental management and economic regional and community development.
