This collaboration enhanced the efficacy of dairying as an engine for development by enhancing the skills of Mexican dairy professionals and strengthening dairy trade links between the United States and Mexico. Among the program’s highlights to date, (1) three Monterrey Tec undergraduate students completed a seven-week summer internship program on Wisconsin dairy farms, (2) two Monterrey Tec faculty completed a six-week professional development program, (3) 13 University of Wisconsin (UW) undergraduate students took a 10-day study tour to Mexico, and (4) three workshops trained 70 employees of ALPURA milk cooperative in basic milk quality, herd health, and forage production. UW is currently considering a collaboration among UW extension agents, Fundacion Produce, and the Mexican Foundation for Rural Development to establish training workshops for Mexican rural, small, and subsistence farmers.
