This partnership promoted economic growth in rural Honduras by using Distance Diagnostics by providing Digital Imaging (DDDI) technology for rapid diagnosis of plant disease and pest problems in the Olancho province. DDDI is an innovative technology developed at the University of Georgia that has proven highly effective, easy to use and reliable in quickly diagnosing plant disease and pest problems. It is estimated that the technology has saved citizens of Georgia over 17 million dollars in prevention of crop loss. The partnership reduced diagnosis turnaround time, provided training and materials to promote DDDI in the field, and provided training to small producers in the Olancho province in plant disease and pest diagnosis. With the introduction of Central American Free Trade Agreement, the adoption of production technologies to reduce costs has been imperative for small farmers.
