The goal of the Bi-National Exchange is to contribute to the development of management and teaching models appropriate for Brazil and the United States by strengthening the quality of technical education, improving business/technical education partnerships, and strengthening opportunities for inclusion of underserved populations in technical education.
Under the Bi-National Exchange, five U.S. community colleges have been partnered with 10 Brazilian technical colleges (Instituto Federal de Ciência e Tecnologia, IFETs).
The Alamo Community College District, and IFET-Pelotas/IFET-Santa partnership is focusing on professional education in welding, and robotics.
The goals include 1) providing faculty with the knowledge to create a Brazilian equivalent of the American Welding Society (AWS) certification program for welding educators, and faculty trained according to AWS standards for welding educators; 2) training faculty to apply robotics theory to practical applications; and 3) understanding of best practices for the implementation of student success.
