The lead institutions and their partners, in collaboration with Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi, are increasing the productivity of maquiladora manufacturing workers and increasing the capacity of the Mexican technical colleges to implement workforce-training solutions to address locally determined workforce priorities. In 2004 and 2005, after conducting a needs assessment with the Mexican institutions, the partnership designed and delivered the first 10 of 15 planned courses on emerging manufacturing techniques for 126 engineering and production workers at three sites in Mexico. The collaborative activities reflect the NAFTA-related common agenda to sustain the gains made by Mexico’s manufacturing sector.
