This TIES partnership developed and improved community forest management through training and collaboration with researchers, technical advisers, and community members. Training activities emphasized theoretical, methodological and technical approaches pertinent to understand and analyze community governance and natural resource management. Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico (UNAM) developed courses for students interested in the development and community management of Mexico’s forests. The collaboration influenced public policy and community-level strategies through the joint work with relevant governmental programs such as PROCYMAF and the Program on Indigenous Conservation of Biodiversity, with NGOs such as ERA and CCMSS, and with the community-based organization, Unión Zapoteca Chinanteca.
