Teshome Alemneh is HED’s Program Officer for the Africa-U.S. Higher Education Initiative planning grants. Mr. Alemneh has researched and written extensively about the challenges of higher education reform in Africa, particularly in his home country Ethiopia.
Dr. Alemneh contributed research to support the Africa-U.S. Higher Education Initiative in a paper entitled, “Challenges of Higher Education in Africa and Lessons of Experience” and helped lay the foundation for the initiative with other stakeholders and partners. Dr. Alemneh served as deputy minister of higher education in Ethiopia from 2001-2005 and developed strategies and policies on a national level.
Dr. Alemneh was a research fellow and consultant at the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges from March to October 2008. He holds a PhD in earth sciences and land evaluation from Ghent University in Belgium and is fluent in Amharic.
