Promoting Women in Development
Partners developed Menoufia University’s capacity to contribute to Egypt’s national effort to reduce the gender gap through the promotion of women in social and economic development.
The partnership promoted curriculum development at Menoufia University and provided graduate-level training in Women in Development (WID) for Menoufia’s female faculty at the University of Connecticut. Working together, the partners built capacity at both Menoufia and University of Connecticut to conduct outreach-oriented research on women’s social, political, and economic status.
In addition, the Partnership to Promote Women in Development connected Menoufia faculty working on women’s issues to community and non-governmental organizations that can facilitate and benefit from their research. Finally, the partnership laid the groundwork for the development of a Women’s Center and a master’s degree program in Women’s Studies at Menoufia University, which would be the first such graduate program in Egypt.
