The University of Missouri and University of Western Cape (UWC) developed an academic leadership program and revised and restructured the University of Western Cape's nursing curriculum to meet the needs of contemporary nursing students in South Africa. University of Western Cape faculty participated in the University of Missouri’s (UM) Academic Leadership Institute and conducted seminars for University of Missouri faculty on leadership issues in South Africa.

University of Missouri organized a conference on professional development needs and opportunities for staff at the University of Western Cape. Placing special emphasis on programs to assist underachieving students, the partners developed appropriate teaching and learning materials for nursing education at University of Western Cape. They also revised the university's nursing course syllabi and program plan outlines, and updated the teaching methodologies and technologies used in the nursing program.
